Itron’s 2025 in Review: Bold Innovation, Smarter Utilities and Stronger Communities

December 18, 2025

2025 was a year of bold innovation at Itron. We empowered utilities and cities to tackle their toughest challenges head-on—transforming operations, driving smarter connections and creating more resilient communities. From advancing grid edge intelligence and ensuring safer gas delivery to enabling sustainable water management, our solutions are making a positive impact for customers and the communities they serve. Here’s a look at the highlights that made this year unforgettable.

Customer Successes

In 2025, we worked alongside utilities and cities across the globe to improve resource management and build resilience in an ever-changing landscape, including:

Key Initiatives

This year, we conducted in-depth research and provided actionable insights to help utilities and cities thrive.

  • Examining AI and Utilities: At Itron Inspire 2025, I shared key findings from our Resourcefulness Insight Report, Grid Edge Intelligence: Five Ways Energy Utilities Can Deploy AI Now. The report reveals how North American utilities are leveraging AI (faster than industry benchmarks predicted) to transform operations.
  • Continuing the Journey to a More Resourceful World: Sustainability remains central to everything we do. Released in June, our 2024 Corporate Sustainability Report highlights the measurable progress and global impact driven by our purpose-driven approach.

Solution Launches

Innovation drives progress. We introduced groundbreaking solutions designed to address the industry’s toughest challenges and enable smarter, more resilient operations.

  • One Platform, Infinite Possibilities: The launch of our Gen6 network platform and UtilityIQ application suite marked the next evolution of our proven Intelligent Connectivity portfolio, delivering a single, open platform that supports multi-transport and multi-vendor interoperability.
  • Powering A New Era of Networking: We unveiled our new Solar Battery Access Point, a solar-powered, battery-operated device that provides reliable network connectivity in areas where traditional networks aren’t available, eliminating the need for tower-based infrastructure.
  • Turning DERs into Dynamic Grid Assets: With IntelliFLEX DERMS, we enable utilities to integrate DERs, defer expensive infrastructure upgrades and unlock up to 20% more capacity in the distribution grid.

Strategic Collaborations

Progress doesn’t happen in silos. That’s why we joined forces with technology leaders to accelerate innovation and drive the utility industry forward.

  • Unlocking New Levels of Intelligence: We enhanced our Grid Edge Intelligence portfolio through collaboration with Gordian Technologies, integrating AI and machine learning to detect, analyze and classify millions of data events within milliseconds.
  • Remedying Distribution Grid Bottlenecks: In collaboration with Schneider Electric and Microsoft, we streamlined data flow access across the distribution grid to provide unprecedented visibility into bottlenecks and improve reliability.
  • Bringing AI to the Grid Edge: Together with NVIDIA, we accelerated the adoption of AI-powered solutions at the grid edge, transforming vast amounts of data into real-time intelligence for utilities.

Recent Acquisitions

To strengthen our ability to support critical infrastructure and deliver greater value to customers across the globe, we made several strategic acquisitions in 2025.

  • Pioneering Digital Construction Management: We signed a definitive agreement to acquire Locusview, a scalable Saas-based platform that helps critical infrastructure providers improve productivity and streamline construction project management.
  • Setting a New Standard for Utility Resilience: We completed the acquisition of Urbint, a leader in AI-powered operational resilience for energy and utilities. Together, our Resiliency Solutions will help utilities protect workers, infrastructure, communities and the environment.

Industry Awards

Our commitment to excellence continues to earn recognition across the industry. Throughout the year, we received accolades that underscore our leadership, innovation and dedication to shaping the future of energy and water management. These include:

Thank you for being part of this journey with us. We hope you find as much value, inspiration and joy in it as we do—and we can’t wait to see what we’ll accomplish together in 2026.
